ONTARIO VICTORY IN BANTAM CHAMPIONSHIP COMPLETES THE SWEEP

August 18, 2010 – The STX Bantam A Lacrosse Championship of Canada wrapped up on the evening of August 7th with Team Ontario capturing the National title to complete the Ontario sweep as earlier in the day the Ontario Pee Wee and Girls Bantam teams also tasted victory.

In the Bantam A Bronze Championship, Iroquois faced off against Alberta in a rematch of the 2009 Bronze game.  Alberta beat Iroquois in the round robin game 7-3 earlier in the week.  It was a different outcome this time around, as Iroquois lead 3-2 after one period and was able to extend their lead to 5-3 after two.  Alberta came back to tie the game at 5-5 before tournament leading scorer Brine Rice notched his third goal of the game as the game winner to propel Iroquois to the 6-5 victory and Bantam A Bronze Championship.  Alberta’s Jordan Prysko finished a strong tournament with 2 goals in the loss.

The most anticipated game of the tournament took place following the Bronze game featuring Ontario and British Columbia battling for national supremacy.  British Columbia beat Ontario 10-4 in round robin play and Ontario was out for redemption and to spoil BC’s perfect record.  Ontario jumped out to a 5-0 lead before British Columbia got on the board.  Ontario scored once more before the end of the second period to lead 6-1.  Both goalies shut the door in the third to end the game at 6-1 for Ontario, giving them the Bantam A Gold National Championship.  Samuel DeGroot scored the only goal for British Columbia while Ontario’s leading scorer Owen MacDonald notched two and team captain Riley Palmer contributed with two assists.
