ONTARIO PEE WEE TEAM GOLDEN AS IROQUOIS CLAIMS BRONZE

August 18,  2010 – The finale of the Warrior Pee Wee Lacrosse Championship of Canada occurred in fine fashion on August 7th at the 2010 Ontario Lacrosse Festival.  After an impressive 8-0 record and outscoring opponents 104-4, Ontario rolled into the Pee Wee A Gold National Championship as heavy favourites against British Columbia.  Ontario exerted their dominance early, scoring 6 goals before Reid Bowerling got BC on the board in the second period.  Ontario’s offensive strength was certainly on display as they pumped 5 more goals past the BC goalie en route to a convincing 11-1 victory to claim the Warrior Pee Wee A Gold National Championship.  Ontario was lead by Luke Burghardt’s 3g, 1a and Ryan Lanchbury’s 1g, 2a which propelled them to a 1-2 finish atop the tournament scoring leader board.  Luke Keenan also had a standout championship game with two goals and three assists.

Prior to the gold medal game, team Iroquois was crowned Warrior Pee Wee A Bronze National Champions, defeating Alberta 9-2.  With two quick goals in the first three minutes of the game, Iroquois seemed to dominate their opponent.  Austin Staats lead the charge for Iroquois with 1g, 3a while three others had 3-point nights including a hat trick from Tehoka Nanticoke moving him into second on the top goal scorer’s list for the tournament.  Alberta’s leading scorer Braeden Duckworth notched his 13th goal of the tournament in the losing effort.

Earlier in the day, Manitoba powered past New Brunswick 8-1 to claim the Pee Wee B Gold National Championship while Nova Scotia squeezed past Saskatchewan by a score of 6-5 to win the Pee Wee B Bronze Championship.
