ONTARIO BANTAM GIRLS RECLAIM NATIONAL TITLE

August 18, 2010 – The Girls Bantam Lacrosse Championship of Canada provided the first national championship games at the 2010 Ontario Lacrosse Festival.  Both the bronze and gold medal matchups displayed the quality of top level girls box lacrosse.

The first national championship game was held the morning of August 7 and featured Team Atlantic battling Alberta for the Girls Bantam Bronze National Championship.  Alberta took the round robin game two days earlier but the teams were more evenly matched on this day.  Though Team Atlantic kept within striking distance, they could never crack the Alberta defence to gain a lead of their own and fell to Alberta 3-2.  Team Atlantic’s leading scorer, Gabrielle Vautour, had a goal while Alberta had a team effort with three goals from three different players to take home the Bantam Girls Bronze National Championship.

The first Gold Medal Championship game of the tournament had Ontario taking on an undefeated British Columbia team.  BC had a strong round robin game when the teams first met, posting a 1-0 win over Ontario.  After a scoreless first period of the Championship, Ontario came out with three goals in the second.  Donna Ward scored the eventual game winner for Ontario and Rachel Lepine closed out the scoring with the only goal of the third period to help Ontario seal the 4-0 victory to claim the Girls Bantam Gold National Championship.
