NATIONAL TOURNAMENT SCHEDULES RELEASED

Toronto (June 25, 2010) – Schedules for the Pee Wee, Bantam, and Girls’ Bantam Lacrosse Championships of Canada were released today.  All divisions will see playing time split between the Legends Centre in Oshawa and Iroquois Park in Whitby.

The Opening Ceremonies will kick off the tournaments on August 1st at 4:00pm and will be followed by the first match in the Bantam division between New Brunswick and Saskatchewan.  The Bantam division championship game is scheduled for August 7th at 8:05pm at Iroquois Park following the 6:30pm bronze medal game.

The Pee Wee tournament will see its first action on August 2nd at 9am at Legends Centre and features last year’s bronze medallist Alberta taking on Quebec.  The championship game is scheduled for August 7th at 3:05pm at Iroquois Park following the 1:30pm bronze medal game.

The Girls’ Bantam championship begins August 3rd with its first match coming at 5:00pm between 2009 bronze medallist New Brunswick and 2009 silver medallist British Columbia.  The tournament concludes with the National Championship game on August 7 at 11:00am at Iroquois Park following the 9:45am bronze.

Much of the action takes place at Legends Centre before moving to the tournament’s home at Iroquois Park Sports Centre.  The excitement of lacrosse action will be showcased every night of the week with the staple evening double-headers.

“We feel our evening double-headers are a great opportunity for all sports fans to come out and see the quality of minor box lacrosse in Canada today”, said Canadian Lacrosse Association VP of Competitions, Chuck Miller.

“It’s also a great way to share national tournaments of this stature with Oshawa, Ontario, a lacrosse town historically familiar with the spotlight of national championship lacrosse”.

During the period 1963-69, the local Oshawa Green Gaels lacrosse club dominated the Canadian Junior “A” series capturing the Minto Cup Lacrosse Championship of Canada seven consecutive years.  Coached by the legendary Jim Bishop, the Gaels record is unmatched in Canadian lacrosse history.

Teams in the 2010 National Championships will parade into the Ontario Lacrosse Festival Opening Ceremonies on Sunday, August 1st at 4:00pm at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby.

The 2010 Ontario Lacrosse Festival thanks the following presenting sponsors for their support: Gait Lacrosse, Harrow Sports, STX, the Toronto Rock Lacrosse Club, Under Armour, and Warrior Sports.
